These measures, which build upon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presidency.ucsb.edu\/documents\/executive-order-14257-regulating-imports-with-reciprocal-tariff-rectify-trade-practices\"><b>Executive Order 14257<\/b><\/a> from April 2, 2025, are the result of recent negotiations aimed at rebalancing the US trade deficit. They will have an immediate impact on global supply chains.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reciprocal Tariffs and New Rates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting <b>August 7th<\/b>, a reciprocal additional tariff will be applied, as established by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/07\/further-modifying-the-reciprocal-tariff-rates\/\"><b>Executive Order of July 31, 2025<\/b><\/a>. Here are the key points for major trading partners<\/p>\n<ul class=\"style--03\">\n<li>European Union: A single rate of 15% has been set. Importantly, for products with a standard tariff already over 15%, the additional tariff will be waived.<\/li>\n<li>Canada: Products not covered by the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) are subject to an additional 35% tariff, effective August 1st.<\/li>\n<li>United Kingdom: The 10% additional tariff is confirmed.<\/li>\n<li>Unspecified Countries: An additional tariff of 10% will be applied<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Anti-Evasion Measures: 40% Tariff for &#8220;Transshipment&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To prevent attempts to evade the new measures, the US has introduced a significant penalty. If cases of &#8220;<b>transshipment<\/b>&#8220;\u2014redirecting goods to take advantage of lower rates\u2014are detected, an additional <b>40%<\/b> tariff will be applied.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Section 232&#8221; Extended to Copper<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With a specific presidential <b>Proclamation<\/b>, the national security measures under &#8220;<b>Section 232<\/b>&#8221; have been extended to copper and its derivatives. From <b>August 1st<\/b>, copper products listed in a specific annex will be subject to an additional <b>50%<\/b> tariff, applied solely to the value of the copper content, provided it&#8217;s specified in the shipping documentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;De Minimis Rule&#8221; Restrictions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The US administration has almost completely suspended the ability to waive tariffs for shipments valued under $800.
