Air Freight Shipping from Italy to Egypt: ACI System Now Mandatory

Starting January 1, 2026, a pre-arrival notification is now required for air cargo.

Effective January 1, 2026, a new regulation is transforming air freight shipments to Egypt. Egyptian customs authorities are extending the Advance Cargo Information (ACI) system, already in place for sea transport, to include air cargo.

The goal is clear: to speed up customs clearance and strengthen security by allowing for a pre-arrival data analysis of goods.

What does the ACI system mean for your shipments?

The ACI system (implemented via the CargoX blockchain platform) requires that all shipment documents and information be submitted electronically in advance. To ensure compliance and a smooth flow for your goods, you must follow these steps:

  • Importer Registration: The Egyptian importer must be registered and have up-to-date data on the “NAFEZA” customs platform.
  • Shipper Preparation: The exporter (your client in Italy/the EU) must register and use the CargoX platform to submit documents digitally.
  • Complete Data in Advance: All shipment information must be provided accurately, allowing Egyptian customs authorities to analyze the cargo before its arrival.

The system’s trial phase concludes on December 31, 2025, making the new requirements mandatory from the new year.
